Rules for Changing Direct Speech into Indirect Speech

Rule 1: Remove Inverted Commas

Direct Speech

  • He said, "I am busy."

Indirect Speech

  • He said that he was busy.


Rule 2: Change Pronouns

Direct Speech

  • She said, "I like cricket."

Indirect Speech

  • She said that she liked cricket.
